Through this piece of writing, I studied how the internet changed our reading patterns and how the brain processes information, going from being able to concentrate on the story of a book to skim read internet articles. At the same time, I looked at how typography came up with solutions that provided a better experience for the reader’s new demands as well as what typefaces are better suited for this type of reading.

So, the essay can be found on a web page where it is scrolling indefinitely. There are three versions, one for each column from which users can pick: the first written in Helvetica, the second in San Francisco and the third in Times New Roman. They all take 7 minutes and 18 seconds to complete, the predicted amount given by a reading-time estimator app. However, the columns differ on how fast they move depending on the length of the text, so it visible shows the readability comparison between the three typefaces.
